Photograph of a vintage shoe inside an abandoned house
Images from the interiors of abandoned houses and empty homes can be both exquisite and melancholy at the same time. There is something especially intimate about this print of a child's shoe, once perhaps loved and worn with joy.
I was exploring a house that had been deserted since the 1986 earthquake, in a village way up in the hills here, and in the basement I found this scene. Such a little shoe. It seemed to have a tender voice and something compelled me to add in the tiny delicate purple flowers as an offering to the child who had once worn it.
I printed it on the textured, heavy 310gsm but soft Hahnemuhle German Etching paper as I wanted it to have a painterly mood.
The image is available to buy in these sizes: 20" x 16", 15" x 12", 10" x 8" (but, as always, if you're wondering about a bigger rendition, we can discuss it). For more information about how my printing is done, just click here.
